The following appeared in the "Live News from Emaus" Column in the Thursday, Apr 18, 1901 issue of the Mavcungie Progress Newspaper:
Addi A Giering died last Friday afternoon at his home in Allentown after an illness of five days following a stroke of Apoplexy sustained last Friday. The deceased was born in Emaus in 1843 and was nearly 58 years of age at his death. Twenty three years ago he removed to Allentown, where he has since resided. He was employed at the time of his death in the liquor store of Tilghman D. Schantz, South Seventh Street. Mr. Giering is survived by his wife, Sarah E., and these seven sons and daughters: Edward, Oliver, John, wilson, Alice, Lizzie and Sallie. Two sisters, Mrs Thomas Ritter of Allentown and Mrs. John Douglas of Newark, N. J. together with two brothers, John of Brooklyn and George of Newark also survive. The funeral services were held in the house and St. Peters Lutheran. The funeral was held on Monday.
