OBITUARY
Dr. Wrener R. GieringSPRINGFIELD -- Dr. Werner Richard Giering, 73, of Springfield died Thursday, Nov 26, 1998, at Memorial Medical Center.
He was born Jan 24, 1925, in Berlin, Germany, the son of Richard Max and Dorothea Jackisch Giering.
Dr. Giering as a 1939 graduate of St. James Luthern School in Chicago; a 1943 graduate of Luther Institute High School in Chicago; a 1946 graduate of Valparaiso University with a bachelor of arts degree, and a 1948 graduate of Northwestern University dental School.
He studied Piano at the American Conservatory of Music, Anna Nalatka Academy of Music, and at the Valpariaso University Music Department.
He received an Artist Diploma in 1942 from the Anna Balatka Academy of Music. He won the Walter League Northern Illinois Talent Quest in 1939 for Piano, Shared International Talent Quest in Kansas City in 1939, and Mastergift in Northern Illinois Talent Quest in 1941.
He was a member of Phi Delta Theta Fraternity at Valpariaso University, Delta Sigma Delta Fraternity at Northwestern University, fellow member in the Royal Society of Health in London, fellow member of the Academy of General Dentistry, fellow and life member of the Illinois State Dental Society, and member of the Chicago Dental Society and the American Dental Society. He was a former member of Nazareth Luthern Chicago in Chicago, where is was a member of the planning and building committee; Christ Memorial Lutheran Church in Oak Lawn, where he was church organist and secretary; Bethel Lutheran Church in Evergreen Park where he was on the board of education, stewartship board and an usher captain; and Mount Greenwood Lutheran Church in Chicago. He was a current member of Trinity Lutheran Church.
Survivors: wife, LaVerne W.; a daughter, Mrs John (Linda) Rodenburg of Springfield; a son, Dr. Robert Giering of Countryside and five grandchildren.
Services: 10 a.m. Monday, Boardman-Smith Funeral Chapel, the Rev. Michael Strong, officiating. Burial: 3 p.m. Monday, Bethania Cemetery, Justice.
