      The following was published in one of the OHIO SOCIETY OF CPAs Publications o/a 1990:

Giering to receive Outstanding Member in Industry Award
      The Ohio Society's Outstanding (Picture included) Member in Industry Award, bestowed in 1990 for the first time,will be presented to John L. Giering, CPA. The award will rrecognize his significant contributions to the accounting profession and the NCR Corporation throughout his professional career in Industry.
      John began his professional career in public accounting and was employed by Price Waterhouse from 1968-80. In 1980, he joined NCR as assistant controller, was promoted to Director of finance and Administration for the European Group in 1982, serving in that capacity until 1984 when he became controller. In 1987, he assumed new responsibilities as President and General Manager of NCR Finance. In 1988, he became NCR'sVice President of Finance and Administration.
      John's contribution to the accounting profession and his employer include chairing the Ethics Task Force which developed a code of business conduct and responded to all Financial Accounting Board exposures drafts for NCR Corporation.
      He initiated and implemented FACTS (Financial an Administration Comprehensive Training System) which provides for continuing education of finance and information systems professionals employed by NCR.
      John is a member of the Board of Trustees of the Greater Dayton Public Television and the Dayton Society of Natural History, and a member of the International Business Advisory Board of the University of South Carolina. He is also a member of the American Institute and the Ohio Society of CPAs, the Financial Executivies Institute and the Financial Council of Manufacturers Alliance for Productive and Innovation.
      The purpose of this award is to heighten the awareness of the contributions of members of the society employed in industry.government or education.
