A point of explanation concerning Hannah. The Cemetery records show her as "Hannah Tool Giering". There is no record of her marriage to Thomas, but the following was found on page 183 of the (Emmaus) Moravian Burial Record: HANNAH TOOL, b. Dec. 29, 1776 in Salisbury, d. Dec. 26, 1833. She was a dau. of Stephen Tool and wife Therese Morrison. In April 1829 after the death of her parents she moved to Emmaus and lived with Thomas Giering and his wife, but remained single. On December 20, 1833 she took ill with a stomach ailment and died on the 26th. Thomas's wife would be Hannah Tools's niece, and since Mary E.
Giering had young children, 2 living at that point, and her husband was
a hotel keeper, I'm sure they could have used the extra help of an
elderly spinster.) I believe this is the accurate historical fact. Page 203, nbr 179 of the Emmaus Moravian Church records as found at the Archives lists: HANNAH ELEONORA GIERING, dau. of Thos. & Hannah Tool Giering Feb 21, 1828-Mar 4, 1828 This is strange as pages 109 (Birth) and 182 (death) list the Mother as Mary Elizabeth nee Houser. |
