Research/Test Bed for HTML/JAVA
This vehicle is used by the author for communicating test and experimentation results to others. Use the Link above to return to the main index from which yu can go anywhere. This is for testing & researching of various concepts within HTML and/or JAVA.
Experimentation in the concepts will be initially done "locally" and tested with the browser in "local" mode. Once the knwledge has been gained, the history of the experiment (the various "bad" steps in the learning process) will be added as a link from this file.
This file is accessed via a "dummy name" in the "index of names". The name is "RESEARCH, JOIN DG".
- COLORBAR - DG: Add explanation here - and maybe a copy of the text from the file. To see the example, Link on and view COLORBAR.HTM Make sure to read the text explanitations both the the top and the bottom of the document.
- FILL IN THE FORM - Although a self-documenting form is available via a link from the home page, there are times when a blank form without test is desired to be filled in to be mailed for use.. That type of form is available in both English and German. Bring up the form and print it out, get it filled out then mail it to DG. To get the English version and to get the German Version.
- COLORNBR - The correlation between color names and numbers. Uses the color swatches from ...
Check other file names (/genelogy, /html, etc) of the form "COLOR ... HTM). Maybe they should be included.
- BOX CHARACTERS - The image of the terminal character set as it is used to form of the offspring chart Vs. the HTML form. With the HTML form vertical lines are created using the broken vertical rule (|) ASCII character and, if corners are used at all, plus signs are used. Horizontal lines are created by use of hyphens (in the example, most horizontal lines are made with hyphens) or underscores (in the example, see the horizontal lines following Joan's and Christine's names. With the terminal character set, actual corners, vertical lines and horizontal lines are used and they are all interconnected. (It must be noted that the printer used to generate the page from which the image was generated generated additional leading between the lines thereby giving the impression of a series of broken vertical rules. NOrmal displays connect the vertical lines.) To see the example, link and view P3-3.HTM
- ARCHIVING OF E-MAIL - This section/page (ARCHIVE.HTM) contains instructions for the archiving (and recovery) of E-Mail. It assumes the use of a ZIP drive and is written for DG's reminder on haow and what to do.
- ESCAPE CODES - The W3 committee has defined a series (about 250) of escape codes for browsers to use as extensions to the "normal" character set. These escape codes all have a leading ampersand, a series of case sensitive letters terminated by a semicolon. For example, the escape code &Uuml and &uuml define the upper and lower case letter "U" with an umlaut *Ü and ü). A list of the available escape code extensions can be obtained.
- REFRESH - The use of type="refresh" in the META tag of HTML (Add more info here. Look at The Refresh Test Document. For details on how this works go to the document and, during the 15 second wait, select VIEW | DOCUMENT SOURCE.
- HIDDEN - The use of type="hidden" in the INPUT tag of a form. See the Demo Form
- NEW INFORMATION FORMS - There are a number of forms (in addition to the GUEST BOOK Form) available on the web site. These forms are used to send information to the author about individuals/Families identified on the web site. Most of the time these forms are used to communicate information on new people to add to the site, however they may also be used to communicate additional information for existing worksheets. For complete documentation on these forms, read here.
- SEARCH ENGINE - The use of locally (web site) oriented search engine is available here. To access it, return to the top of file, select the option to return to the mani index and then, from the main menu select the search engine.

- INDEXING FOR SEARCH - As noted in the previous section a Search Engine is available through the Main Menu. In order to properly operate, the web site's internal index MUST be re-generated after each significant upload of new or updated material. Te following indicates the steps necessary to re-index the material:
- asdfghjkl Accomplish the upload of the new and/or updated documents using the WS_FTP process. If the process is activated via an indirect command file, the process will exit following the execution. Connection to the web site should have been activated prior to executing the indirect command file to preclude the connection being dropped.
- Once the upload has been compleed, activate the FRONTPAGE process. Find it under START | PROGRAMS | MICROSOFT FRONTPAGE. When it has begun executing select FILE from the main menu bar, then OPEN WEB. Select the web site URL option and click OPEN. The process should connect to the web site and then ask for a username and password. The user name is "ghrflo" and the Password is "ghrflo99". You should then receive the file list including the folder list. Select the folder in which the material has been stored: V3SVC175.
- With the main folder selected (V3SVC175), choose the TOOLS option from the main menu bar. The bottom of the drop-down menu has a double down arrow - select it. One of the resultant options from this drop-down menu is REGENERATE HYPERTEXT LINKS. Answer YES to set it in motion.
- The re-indexing is complete when the file list with the previously selected name (V3SVC175) opened to reveal the sub-elements.
