COLLECTION NOTE: The following note, by the collector of the information (Wife, Nancy of Great-Grandson, Brian):
William Stahle was born in Philadelphia 5 months after his parents, Wilhelm and Catherine, nee Daniel, Stahle arrived in this country. Walter was born in Bethlehem less than 2 year later. Both the boys served in the Spanish - American War, most likely in the same unit. A photograph shows them in identical uniforms, down to the large number ones on their hats and belt buckles. William Stahle is thought to have gone Cuba during the war, because he brought a cane back with him. In 1900, Walter's profession was listed as machinist, while William was working in his father's Casino Hotel. Walter married Annie Rebecca Giering about 1901 and they were planning to build a house next to the Casino when it burned in 1904. In 1910, Walter was still working as a machinist in a machine shop, and William was living in Long Island. Walter died of pneumonia in 1918. Will (Walter's brother) obtained a divorce in September 1924 and married Annie in December 1924. Annie and her two youngest daughters moved to Long Island with William Stahle and she died there in 1946. According to an elderly friend of the family, Annie could't marry William Stahle, so she married his brother Walter.
