COMMENTARY:
Catherine Confirmed into the Emmaus Moravian Church, Mar 24, 1918
The following commentary was received from Nancy Moyer, the wife of Edgar's Grandson:
About Edgar Moyer - The picture of Edgar at the radio is definitely Edgar. He is wearing headphones and I don't know what is behind his head which makes his head look funny. This was the first radio in Emmaus and Edgar built it himself. As you can see it took up an entire workbench in the basement. Edgar was a very small man and had to shop in the boys department to get clothes that fit. He was also very creative. He built an entire airplane in his basement. (Approx. 1930, since Walter appears in one picture and looks like he is about 3) To get it out of the basement, he knocked out part of the basement wall. He did not know how to fly, so he hired a pilot to fly it. The only thing that remains of the plane are the two propellers. The first, a purchase one, is hanging on our wall. It did not have enough lift, so Edgar made his own, which eventually flew the plane. Jeff Moyer, my brother-in-law, has that one. Edgar also likes to fly kites and Brian can remember him doing that. Edgar was offered a job designing planes for one of the young airplane companies, but he had a good job with the silk mill and chose to stay in Emmaus. Later the Silk Mills closed down.
